APE Octakong Drives the Worlds Largest Pile
| Pile specifications | Hammer specifications |
| Pile diameter: 22 meter | Eccentric moment: 1840 kg-m |
| Pile weight: 450 tons | Drive force vibro: 40.000 kN |
| Pile lenght: 40 meters | Horse power: 9.600 hp |
These impressive numbers show the specifications of the pile and vibratory hammer which are driving the world's largest pile.
It only took the APE Octakong (built up out of 8 APE Model 600 "Super Kong" vibratory driver / extractors) 7 and a half minutes to drive the pile!
After positioning the pile in 3 hours; the difficulty level of the placement was due to the fact it has to be in exact GPS position, as well as it has to face the correct degree to line up with the interlocks on each side of the pile.
More than 40 top engineers participated in coordinating the driving procedure, separated in different teams to make sure the first pile drove successfully.
APE USA, APE China and APE Holland teamed up with Allnamics Pile Testing Experts, to get a complete pile drivability study for this massive project.
After obtaining the contract, the hammer and the eight 1.200 horsepower power units were completed in 2,5 months.
